“The 9 Shot Drill”

Early in Tiger Woods career, while he was under the tutelage of Hank Haney, Tiger learned “The 9 Shot Drill”.

The larger part to being the best ball striker you can be culminates when you are able to successfully hit 9 shots on command. These shots are: Low, medium and high trajectory shots that go straight, draw or fade. When you are struggling with your ball flight, a great drill is to practice the opposite shot shape and trajectory.  Meaning if you tend to hit hooks, work on fading the golf ball and vise versa.  If you tend to hit the ball too high or low, work on the opposite. Why:

If you are able to easily curve the ball both ways and control your trajectory on command, that is an indicator that you are swinging the golf club on a great swing plane. Swings that are too upright or too flat take away any golfer’s ability to be versatile with their curvature and trajectory. Swinging the club on plane also gives you the best opportunity to be equally confident with woods and irons, uneven lies, and both partial and full shots.
