~ The Perfect Tee Shot ~
What do you do in your setup and backswing? This greatly determines the type of shot you will hit, especially when we are talking about getting off the tee. Take note of a couple of things that 2013 Masters Champion, Adam Scott does in his setup and backswing, that will help you to set the foundation for great tee shots.
Problem: Many amateur golfers will tend to setup with their shoulders too level. This promotes too much of a downward strike into the ball, taking away from their distance and accuracy potential. Another common error many golfers make is they simply do not take a full upper body turn away from the ball. Not taking a full turn away from the ball zaps you of power and also adds to your chances of hitting a high and weak fade or slice.
How to fix it:
At setup, notice how Adam Scott has the ball up in his stance with his left shoulder higher than his right shoulder. From here he is in perfect position to hit a great drive.
As you enter the top of the backswing, your back should feel as it is facing your target. Adam’s right foot is flared away from the target. This gives him the ability to make his maximum turn away from the ball. Doing so promotes more of a shallow, in-to-out swing path, which will aid in hitting the ball long and straight.
