Master Your Approach Shots!

Being able to control your distances is crucial if you are looking to play your best golf.  When it comes to shots with the scoring clubs (8 iron to wedges), golfers that struggle with their distance control are often going at these shots the same way they go after a driver.  If they are hitting the ball solid, all is ok, but if they are a little off, mishits will greatly affect their ability to control their distances.  If it’s windy and there is any extra side spin on their shots, the ball will curve all the more off-line, making it much more difficult to score.

Solution:  To ensure accuracy while using your scoring clubs, instead of going at it like a normal full shot, take a little more club and experiment with taking something off your shots by either:

~ Gripping down on the club ~
~ Taking a shorter swing ~
~ Slowing down a full length swing ~

Why:  All three techniques are good ways to help you find the center of the face and hit the ball solid.  If you are able to hit the ball solid, your distance control will be much more consistent and your scores will begin to drop.
