Tiger Takeaway: Improve Your Golf Game With This Practice Drill

HE’S BACK!
TIGER WOODS WINS TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP FOR FIRST TITLE IN 5 YEARS

Early in Tiger Woods career, while he was under the tutelage of Hank Haney, Tiger learned “The 9 Shot Drill” to keep his swing balanced and versatile.

Practicing the opposite shot shape and trajectory will help you significantly when you are struggling with controlling both your curvature and trajectory. Meaning if you tend to hit hooks, work on fading the golf ball and vise versa. If you tend to hit the ball too high or low, work on the opposite.

“THE 9 SHOT DRILL”
The larger part to being the best ball striker you can be culminates when you are able to successfully hit 9 shots. These shots are: Low, medium and high trajectory shots that go straight, draw or fade.

THE TAKEAWAY

If you are able to easily curve the ball both ways and control your trajectory on command, that is an indicator that you are swinging the golf club on a great swing plane. Swings that are too upright or too flat take away any golfer’s ability to be versatile with their curvature and trajectory. Swinging the club on plane also gives you the best opportunity to be equally confident with drivers and irons, uneven lies, along with both partial and full shots.
