“Are You Breathing?”

Problem:

Do you tend to lose your focus during a round of golf?  Do you have difficulty staying present after you have just made a mistake?  Are you missing out on that rhythm and flow you have in your swing when you are performing your absolute best?  Chances are that you haven’t been monitoring your breathing.

Try:

During your next round of golf, experiment with spending time in between golf shots taking long, deep diaphragmatic breaths.  Instead of spending your time thinking about what happened in the past, or what may happen on future holes, work on spending more time focusing on your breathing, especially before you start your pre-shot routine.

Why:

For every state of mind there is a state of breath.  Conscious breathing will slow the mind down and bring you back to the present moment.  From this state of mind, you will be able to focus on what you want to have happen which is an essential aspect of a solid pre-shot routine.  It will also assist in alleviating muscle tension, and help to bring that fluidity you want back into your swing.
