Those wise words are from one of the greatest ball strikers of all time. When it comes to becoming a great iron player, many golfers have to go against their natural instinct in order to improve. A common reason why golfers struggle making consistent contact with their irons is because they tend to hang back on their trail leg while “cupping” their top wrist at impact (meaning their top hand’s knuckles are pointing more to the sky at impact). This is all in an effort to help the ball into the air. Unfortunately, those mechanics will generally create a mix of fat and thin shots, and if decent contact is occasionally made, a high and weak ball flight is the result. |
