Do You Tend To Hook The Ball?
Problem: Hooking the ball happens when your clubface is closed relative to your swing path at impact. One reason why a golfer will hook the ball is due to a lower body that is very inactive through the hitting area. As you can see in the picture above, my weight is still back on my right leg, and my hips have not rotated. As a result, my hands have outraced my body and the clubface has closed down too quickly. This action can surely cause a hook.
Try: “The Drag Drill”
Start in your normal golf posture with your club lying on the ground as shown in the first picture above. Then with arms that are passive, drag the club along the ground by using your lower body to pull the club through the impact area to a post impact position. As you can see in the series of pictures, my weight has gradually shifted to my left leg as my hips have opened and rotated to the left. As a result the clubface has not closed down.
Why: Doing this action correctly will train you to feel the proper action you will need through the hitting area to help you tame that hook.
